Application Engineer

The candidate will participates in application packaging requirements, configuration, design, and customization for large, complex, or Firm-wide applications. Acts as Technical Reference User for assigned applications, frequently working with Business Reference User(s) to understand how applications are used at the firm. Assigned applications may include various client/server applications – for example, the Microsoft 365 platform, Litera’s suite of applications, Interaction, viEval/viLMS, Sierra Desktop and CopiTrak. Performs application deployments, upgrades and patch planning. Maintains awareness of technology developments and makes recommendations to the User Applications Manager. Participates in software licensing and support agreement discussions. Assists with resolution of escalated incidents and participates in problem management activities. Assumes ownership of level 3 support and troubleshooting of assigned applications. Assists in evaluating the business relevance and requirements of applications and upgrades under consideration. Serves as a resource for small application-specific development requests. Designs, configures, codes, and documents business systems and assigned application software. Assumes responsibility for implementation, maintenance and technical support of purchased and custom developed software packages and integrations, which often requires working directly with vendors and 3rd party consultants. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. A self-motivated and enthusiastic individual that can communicate, work effectively in a team environment, listen, and solve problems. Experience with the Microsoft 365 platform, Litera’s suite of applications, LexisNexis Interaction (or similar CRM solution), viEval/viLMS (or similar learning management solution), Sierra Desktop and CopiTrak are highly desirable but not required for the right candidate. Application troubleshooting experience in an enterprise environment. Experience supporting a 24x7 production environment. Demonstrated ability to develop scripts/code (following firm standards) directly applicable to technology encompassed in assigned applications. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft OS-based desktop, server, and database systems. Good knowledge of Microsoft networking concepts and common infrastructure. Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel. Ability to work successfully and independently in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures. Knowledge and working experience of ITIL methodologies and procedures is a plus. Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience. Must have 2-3 years’ experience in applications and services integration and/or development, with significant specialization in one or more areas of the above-mentioned areas of technology. Minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a Windows environment including some exposure to Windows programming languages and relational databases. Should have 2-3 years’ experience in application analysis. Experience within a Legal environment a plus.
