Global Director of Practice Technology
The candidate will serve to ensure that the Client and Practice Technology team develops a coordinated and impactful program of activity that achieves strategic alignment with the firm’s Departments and key clients. Thought leadership initiatives that raise awareness of opportunities for legal innovation. Establish forums, networks, and events for idea exploration and collaboration, such as workshops, hackathons, labs, etc.. Collaborate with Learning and Development to embed innovative thinking and multidisciplinary skills/awareness into the attorney development pathways. Meet with external parties (clients, vendors, academia) to gain and propagate knowledge about legaltech developments and opportunities, and industry/ competitor innovation. Attend technology roadshows and other promotional events to increase awareness and understanding of firm capabilities and solutions. Work with Technology and the Office of General Counsel to ensure a predictable and capable base of core technologies, platforms, and processes to support innovation and align to value creation potential. Influence Technology projects and roadmaps where “first mover” opportunities exist to enhance the perception of the legal teams in the market. Work with Department Heads, DCOOs, and Key Client program leads to ensure coordinated and aligned support by the Client and Practice Technology team for their needs; and embedding innovative and creative thinking practices into their teams and work processes. Support Senior Managers in establishing effective forms of engagement with the attorneys and legal professionals in their respective domains, in order to identify, explore, and develop business cases/ project plans for potential innovation pursuits. Provide direction and mentorship to all members of Client and Practice Technology team, to ensure strong alignment between team effort and business value. Accountable for the projects and pursuits driven by the Senior Practice Solution Managers. Responsible for helping them evaluate opportunity costs and execution requirements (development, launch, ongoing support/ maintenance) and for ensuring good strategic alignment. Work with CIO and relevant Heads to secure commitment and allocation of resources required to deliver approved projects, including requisite investment of stakeholder time, project management, technical expertise, etc.. Overcome systemic blockers to the pursuit of strategically worthwhile client and practice facing pursuits (e.g. exceptional secondments, investment hour rewards, and budgets.). Participate in events that provide a platform to amplify the firm’s brand and reputation within the legal market. Experience in developing requirements for, and managing the development of, engineered solutions to legal problems using LawTech (specific practical experience applying Agile methodologies highly valued) is required. Legal knowledge and experience is required. Significant experience working for a law firm, law department, or law company, with a strong understanding of legal service delivery processes and a passion for innovation through continuous improvement and digital transformation is preferred. Should preferably have previous experience as a practicing lawyer.
