Senior Corporate Counsel, Innovation Law
The candidate will support clients across multiple functional areas to build and leverage BMS’ intellectual property interests, with a focus on cell and gene therapy products and processes. Responsibilities include providing strategic counsel on all facets of intellectual property law, including procurement, enforcement, freedom to operate, and business development, as well as legal counsel to the Research & Early Development organization. Work closely with clients in various functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment and will collaborate with other in-house and outside attorneys to accomplish BMS objectives. A J.D. degree or equivalent and admission to at least one State Bar. Should have 12+ years of patent experience in the biotechnology field, preferably including at least five years working in-house for an innovative biopharmaceutical company. Registered to practice before the USPTO and eligible to practice in Washington or obtain a limited license for in-house counsel. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the biologic or related sciences. An advanced degree and/or scientific research experience is preferred. Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Service-oriented focus with ability to work as part of cross-functional teams and drive results. Highest integrity, excellent judgment and the ability to proactively recognize and effectively assess business risk and communicate legal issues to patent, legal and general management. Experience managing other professionals preferred.
