Job Description

Northern Colorado Springs Law Firm is seeking a full-time Paralegal with a minimum of 3 years of Trust and Estate experience. We are seeking a team orientated, self-starter who has the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced estate and business planning law firm.

SUMMARY: The paralegal’s primary responsibility is to draft documents including Health Care Directives, Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Amendments, etc. This position works collaboratively with the attorney in completing legal work in a timely manner. We are looking for the right person to work alongside our attorney and team of paralegals in an efficient, detail-oriented, and proactive manner. This position calls for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team and can handle multiple assignments simultaneously. The ideal candidate can create structure and order in their processes, pay close attention to detail, and document what they do while continuing to be extremely organized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs a wide variety of Paralegal/Legal Assistant functions to support all legal areas of the firm with a focus on Estate Planning/ Business Planning/ Probate/ Trust Administration.

  • Client Contact– Communicates with clients via mail, email and telephone to set up appointments, discusses draft documents and changes to documents, and answer general client inquiries. Also communicates with financial advisors, insurance companies when necessary.
  • Problem Solving– Proactively anticipates and resolves issues quickly.
  • Process Improvement– Makes recommendations to improve processes that will increase service, quality, and efficiency and responsiveness to clients.
  • Draft Documents– Draft documents and revise draft documents, run final documents for execution. Including, but not limited to RLT, Trust Amendments, IRTs, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Healthcare documents, etc.
  • Funding: Ability and knowledge to prepare documents and assist with creating and transferring assets into trusts to ease the probate process.
  • Client Execution Meetings– Meet with the client initially to review the final documents and field any questions they may have, know when to bring questions to the Attorney’s attention, and have the client write their initials on the documents where indicated.
  • Time Management- Consistently produce an accurate work product while managing simultaneous projects and working independently to prioritize and complete assignments on time. Assess the urgency of situations and determine appropriate actions, monitor status of pending items, provide follow up and keep management informed by communicating a wide variety of information.
  • Other Duties– Performs other duties as assigned including scanning documents, conforming documents, special project. Maintain legal management systems, email, electronic storage, and file storage.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to function at a high level and assume significant responsibilities.
  • Ability to work directly with clients and attorney and team members.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both over the phone and in person
  • Strong computer and document production skills including competence with MS Word, Excel, Windows, Gmail and on-line research.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control
  • Self-starter, quick learner, strong work ethic and be flexible
  • Extremely meticulous, precise, and detail-oriented.
  • Team player who takes ownership of issues and follows through to resolution.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Minimum of 3 years as an estate planning paralegal in a fast-paced professional law firm.
  • Experience with WealthDocx drafting software.
  • Bachelor’s degree and paralegal certificate preferred. 

COMPENSATION

  • Salary is based on skill and experience
  • 8:00am- 5:00pm hours, Monday-Friday (rare to work OT or weekends)
  • Job Type: Full-time (in house)
