The professional will serve as the primary staff member for coordinating Point of Care Testing (POCT): record keeping, training and annual recertification of staff
(Glucometer, urinalysis, pregnancy test, breath alcohol testing)
The professional will also lead all phlebotomy services provided by the OMS team in the Bethesda Clinical Center. As a function of this, they will lead the process of specimen distribution and storage.
Not only will the candidate support lab functions but they will also support various nursing duties and appointments including but not limited to hearing/ audiology appointments, administering vaccines, perform EKGs and eye irigations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The incumbent performs duties as described below in accordance with OMS policies and procedures:
Processing specimens for Clinical Center lab
Preparing specimens for shipping to B virus lab and associated paperwork
Preparing and shipping SIV/SHIV specimens and associated paperwork
Lab results: collecting, collating, recording in CAM, reporting to ordering clinician
Calibrating POCT equipment, annual CLIA certification
Stocking lab supplies
Sending specimens to Quest (and other outsource labs) and obtaining/documenting/reporting results
Processing, storing and documenting save serum specimens, including offsite storage
Provied direct nursing care in additions to skin and wound care
Use oxyhen delivery devices
Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Must have the ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Must be reliable and accurate in recording patient data/flu vaccine data
Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to work with a variety of patients and other health care workers

Ethics and Compliance:

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Sit or Stand throughout a regular 8 hour work day.
Ability to work on computer for long periods.
Education and/or Experience
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
License: Licensed Practical Nursing in Maryland preferred. Compact state licenses accepted.
Experience: Two years post graduate clinical experience as an LPN providing direct patient care.
Certified Phlebotomist or equivalent
Certification: Basic Cardiac Life Support through the American Heart Association
Qualifications and Requirements:
Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Must adhere to HIPAA, Privacy Act guidelines and be able to perform work in a confidential manner.
Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
