What’s the role?

As a Senior Technical Consultant, you will be a part of Shell IT’s Connectivity Portfolio organization. Your mission is to support projects with design engineering and consulting capabilities under the renewed model.

You are expected to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) covering the application of telecommunications and network technology deployed across the Shell Group. This covers all Shell’s businesses, all Shell’s location (offices, onshore plants, offshore plants, offices, trading floors, etc.) and various types of projects including capital projects and IT projects.

Moreover, you will participate in participate in larger project or lead smaller projects and deliver the network elements in the project. The Technical Consultant will be the key person in the project for all telecom and network elements.

More specifically, your principle responsibilities will include:

Work with design team to produce design meeting requirements based on Shell standards.

Develop deployment strategy and lead deployment including handover to operations by coordinating activities across suppliers, internal IT teams and business stakeholders.

Knowledge sharing and drive continuous improvement across the community.

Provide effective leadership to stakeholders ensuring compliance with technical and process standards.

For the services in scope of technical project delivery :

Technical Consultant in a larger project with the accountabilities for support projects with design engineering and consulting capabilities under the renewed model.

Collect and document requirements by specifying the needed functionality, all the non-functional requirements and all dependencies (e.g. traffic analysis, cabling, construction or electrical work needed).

Get a Shell standards-based design produced and signed off with the design team and design assurance team.

Work via design office with architecture & portfolio to update standards in specific cases.

Work on New Service Development with portfolio, architecture, and vendors as technology subject matter expert.

Develop a deployment and testing strategy which is aligned with business readiness and IT delivery timelines.

Lead the deployment by orchestrating all activities across multiple teams, consisting off: central IT delivery, local installation, local testing, and business stakeholders.

Share knowledge obtained and learn from others as part of a natural team across architecture, portfolio, design, network engineers, technical consultants and operations and service management, amongst others.

Leadership

Lead an organization comprising technical consultants from various technology domains located at the same hub/proximate location as well as virtual leadership for staffs off-site.

Ensuring team’s alignment with Shell business and IT Architecture strategies and keeping up to date with the IT technologies development be it already been adopted into Shell landscape or not.

Driven by Shell organization and Connectivity Portfolio visions, develop teams’ KPIs and drive high performance against the KPI through coaching and support on upskilling, reskilling, and cross-skilling where necessary.

Continuously grow the capability of the team by ensuring sufficient focus for individual development.

Exhibiting servant leadership behavior, empowerment and increasing transparency that enables self-organization of the team.

Behaviors : Ensure ethical leadership through compliance to Shell General Business Principles and Values.

Resource Utilization at 80% or more averaged through the year based on days worked.

Get alignment on TC Roles and Responsibilities before start of each project – keep reminding stakeholder about R&R and get regular monthly alignment from SHs – monthly checkpoint call

Maintain or improve SPS scores along with active & visible Diversity and Inclusion (including gender balance, race and equality) in which we respect and trust each other .

Positive remarks in Survey for TC – basis R&R – need to get good feedback midyear & year end

Continue embedding of key tools to promote smooth operations of the organization – Maintain Good Hygiene - Time writing, ServiceNow Updates, Reporting etc.

Enable team sessions on mental health and psychological safety, try and mitigate prolonged Work Life Balance risks.

Partnership

Establish strong relationship with other stakeholders through collaboration with the Connectivity Portfolio organization and a range of stakeholders including Shell business managers, service providers, non-Connectivity Portfolio organization.

Actively identifies any process or technical gaps within delivery function and work effectively with partners to remediate such gaps through Continuous Improvement initiatives.

What we need from you?

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Minimum thirteen (13) years relevant work experience in Network Engineer or Designer or Consultant.

Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

A high degree of technical network knowledge on traditional (IP) networks and systems as well as telecom solutions such as Satellite, Optical/Radio links, Wireless Canopy, Mobile Radio (DMR/Tetra), Microwave, Fiber Optics, Marine and Aeronautical Radio, Sub-marine Fiber and Access Security/CCTV.

Experience in leading and executing Telecom’s project delivery, Telecom’s operations, or IT consultancy assignments to design, develop and deliver viable network and telecom solutions, preferably in Oil and Gas or similar industry with offshore experience preferred.

Experience in delivering project involving cross-functional and cross-technologies as the Connectivity subject matter expert.

Strong business acumen.

Mastering the OSI Model and TCP/IP protocol suite.

Mastering switching and routing technologies. At minimum CCNP will be an advantage.

Mastering security technologies; Next-Gen Firewall technologies and cloud-based solution - Zscaler, Palo Alto, FortiGate etc.

Strong knowledge in DNS, DHCP, IPAM (DDI) technologies; Infoblox or cloud-based solution.

Strong knowledge in Software-defined Networking (SDN) technologies.

Knowledge in automation framework and concept.

Proficient in cross-technologies areas; Cloud / AD / PAC / Infosec

Knowledge of environmental and electrical safety in hazardous (IEC EX) that impact design of telecoms systems used in process plants; Upstream / Downstream IT infrastructure and telecom solutions e.g. Process Control/SCADA, Safety Critical Elements

Knowledge of project delivery methodology for managing both IT and Capital projects in Oil and Gas industry.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
