Salary Grade: H - $28.3654 - $37.0192 ($59,000 - $77,000)

Job Summary

The Accountant will perform professional-level accounting activities that support the preparation, recording, and reconciliation of accounting/business transactions. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and/or assisting with the general ledger system and providing management reports. The incumbent will advise in the proper financial reporting of CalOptima's operations, participate in the general accounting functions, and coordinate work with others in the Accounting department as well as other departments.

Position Responsibilities:



  • Reviews and reconciles purchasing and accounts payable transactions to ensure they are compliant with policies and regulations.
  • Calculates and prepares journal entries relating to estimation of revenue and medical expenditures.
  • Participates in month-end and year-end closing in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Completes financial schedules detailing monthly expenses.
  • Analyzes and prepares account reconciliations.
  • Proposes accruals and adjustments as necessary.
  • Supports financial audits.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.



Possesses the Ability to:





  • Calculate and prepare appropriate journal entries to record business transactions.
  • Understand and reconcile purchasing and accounts payable transactions.
  • Maintain departmental records and reports and collect data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Be self-motivated and focused on the goals and objectives of the agency.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with CalOptima leadership and staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ensure the accuracy of journal entries and pay strong attention to detail.
  • Be comfortable working in a dynamic environment with both short-term and long-term deadlines.
  • Utilize computer and appropriate software (e.g., Microsoft Office: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and job specific applications/systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains) to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets, and/or other information applicable to the position assignment.



Experience & Education:





  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience in accounting required.
  • 2 years of experience in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or related field required.



Preferred Qualifications:





  • Experience in healthcare, insurance industry, or public accounting preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains accounting software preferred.



Knowledge of:





  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
