Duties: Covers Family Court Commissioner calendar and responsibilities when Family Court Commissioner is not available. Covers Court Commissioner calendar and responsibilities when Court Commissioner is not available. Conducts initial appearances in criminal, juvenile, and paternity cases. Hears requests for fine extensions in traffic, ordinance and DNR cases. Determines bond in criminal initial appearances and warrant cases. Makes initial probable cause determinations in mental commitment hearings; conducts annual Watts review hearings as requested. Conducts juvenile detention, shelter care, and emergency custody hearings and accepts uncontested pleas in juvenile matters. Conducts initial appearances, pretrial conferences and court trials in small claims cases; hears motions to reopen default judgments, holds rent and damage hearings, and small claims contempt hearings. Issues summons, arrest warrants, and search warrants; issues bench warrants for those who do not appear as summoned. Conducts preliminary hearings as needed. Conducts initial appearances in traffic, ordinance, and DNR regulation cases. Receives non-contested forfeiture pleas and imposes monetary penalties. Conducts hearings to determine the reasonableness of a refusal to submit to a blood, breath or urine test in OMWI cases, and submits proposed findings of fact and recommendations to the Circuit Court. Conducts temporary order hearings and post-judgment hearings in family cases, issues orders concerning child custody, physical placement, child support, and maintenance. Conducts stipulated divorce hearings. Performs weddings. Reviews and signs or rejects petitions for domestic abuse and harassment temporary restraining orders; conducts domestic abuse and harassment injunction hearings. Reviews and signs Orders to Show Cause, warrants and orders for income withholding, mediation of custody and placement orders and fee waiver requests. Directs hearings to the assigned court within the time periods mandated by statute. Conducts hearings in new paternity cases including initial appearances, blood test reviews, pretrial hearings and all other hearings except contested trials. Sets bond where persons are arrested on paternity warrants. Reviews and accepts or rejects stipulated settlements in new family actions as well as post judgment disputes in family matters. Supervises, directs activities, and assigns and monitors work of Clerk Typist III, Legal Secretary, and Court Reporter. Such additional responsibilities as directed by Chief Judge, Circuit Court Judges, statutes or otherwise. Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
