Profile

The Field Service Technician Is required to go out on field service calls to inspect, repair, install and start-up gear units and other transmission parts on customer sites upon the request of service manager. Technician determines cause of failure and possible corrective actions. In house will perform disassembly and assembly of power transmissions such as Redurex Helical gear units, Flender standard gear units to include: bevel, planetary, worm gear, mixer drive, mill drive, single and double screw extruder units, hoist and swing gear units, variator drives, marine drives, couplings and their subassemblies. Must be able to read and work from: blueprints, parts lists and assembly protocols. Uses parts washers, freezers, ovens, cranes, fork trucks, presses, torches, hand and power tools. Will be responsible for disassembling units, inspecting disassembled parts, write up and reporting failed parts, and advise on replacement parts. Will shim for bearing settings and final assemble gear units. At times may spin test units Can work alone, with other assemblers, and as required may oversee quality and accuracy of work performed by fellow team members and clean up. Is responsible for correctness of unit during disassembly and reassembly. May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Has complete knowledge of all assembly functions and company product line.
Responsibilities:
1 Service and maintenance Industry and wind turbine gearboxes
2 Troubleshoot errors on wind turbine gearboxes
3 Escalate technical issues to supporting engineering functions
4 Be self-motivated, able to think quickly and address issues as they arise
5 Ability to climb stairs and ladders generally up to 125 meters in height or similar, ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight, and the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
Must pass a physical administered by a medical practitioner to ensure ability to safely perform the job functions and meet the physical demands of the position
Driving is an essential function of the job and applicants must have a valid driver’s license at the time of application with an acceptable driving record. Employees must maintain a valid license and acceptable driving record and may be subject to periodic DMV (department of motor vehicles) checks of their license.
Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States. Qualified applicants will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States
Preferred knowledge, skills, education, and experience:
1 Certification from a Renewable Energy, Wind Technical Program, & MSHA sites.
2 Hands on work experience as a Field Service or Wind Technician on a Wind Farm
Essential Job Functions Disassembly:
1 Verifies unit to work order and SRO (service repair order) number.
2 Disassembles unit, inspects parts, recommends replacement parts
Essential Job Functions Assembly:
1 Verifies parts to parts list and records serial numbers as required.
2 Checks parts for cleanliness and visually inspects parts for defects.
3 Cleans and pre-assemble torque arms.
4 Cleans and pre-assemble carriers and their components.
5 Assemble internal gearing.
6 Clean and set up housings . 
7 Assemble internal lube systems in housings.
8 Assemble oil dams, oil pipes, and sub-assembled gearing into housings.
9 Assemble housings, components, and subassemblies together to make a complete unit.
10 Sets bearing endplays per drawings or assembly protocols.
11 Assemble external lube systems.
12 Responsible for overall correctness of gear unit before test 13 Directly oversees lower grade assemblers and clean up personnel.
Necessary Prior Experience:
10 years prior experience in power transmission, heavy equipment assembly, or wind gearbox applications.
Knowledge and experience with blue prints, metric system, work standards, ISO and quality documentation
Extensive knowledge with basic gearing, bearings, Lathe experience helpful but not required
