Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be someone with experience working with multiple Project Implementation teams, with the ability to organize and execute test plans. The candidate will need to understand the complexities of delivering quality with external customers who may or may not understand the importance of Quality Assurance. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate with diverse global teams, often including customer and third-party stakeholders. This individual is expected to contribute to the team and work independently.

Leads QA onshore / offshore teams and collaborates with developers, product owners, Scrum Masters, and DevOps engineers, to make sure project implementations are delivered with high quality

Plans, executes and controls testing efforts. Plays a key role guiding the testing teams through different testing types/phases

Communicates and removes any barriers from the QA teams and ensures team completes assigned tasks within project deadlines

Drives innovation within the QA space

Holds the team accountable to quality standards

Anticipates fluctuations in resource/demand ratio and plans accordingly

Works with customer to understand and/or influence the customer test plan

Defines and manages quality metrics

Directs GE test activities to perform hands-on testing

Coordinates plan when using multiple systems (GE and customer-facing) to manage defects

Supports customer testing

Triages customer reported defects

Communicates product defects to GE product teams

Ensures that clear, understandable acceptance criteria is written (shared responsibility w/ Scrum Master & technical lead)

Leads by example with a continuous improvement mindset

Provides the voice of the customer to internal development teams to ensure that quality expectations are met or exceeded from a customer perspective

Education Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in STEM field and minimum 4 years of Sr. QA and QA Lead positions

Eligibility Requirements:

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will sponsor individuals for employment visas.

Must be able to pass security reviews by regulated customers such as electric utilities

Must be willing to travel (if travel is required) – 5 - 10%

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

Has a big picture of quality on the project - helps team focus on what is important

Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with internal GE and external customer stakeholders

Understanding of test and project tools (GE and/or customer tools)

Familiar with scripting tools such as Python, PowerShell and the value of making efficiency enhancements

Understanding of test automation principles within CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of Selenium, Katalon Studio, and other test automation frameworks is a plus

Ability to guide QA personnel on crafting test cases to have ideal coverage

Thoroughly understands how to define acceptance criteria and helps team/customer capture them to drive quality in user stories/defects

Able to use metrics in Jira and qTest to guide teams to maximize quality while maintaining a certain level of productivity

Understands and can work with relational databases

Familiarity with GIS applications (Smallworld GIS preferred) and/or electrical engineering concepts

Able to understand and document technical aspects of a project

Can pivot to view testing and defects from a user/customer perspective

Proficient with the essential types of testing, applies balanced coverage aligned with testing pyramid, knows where to focus efforts based on test plan

Business Acumen:

Displays understanding of the project’s value proposition for the customer. Shows commitment to deliver the best value proposition for the targeted customer

Understands how the business solves the problem in specific domain areas using the technology. (Ex: Energy Management domain)

Able to describe the benefits of quality both internally and externally to customers and contractors

Leadership

Effective at organizing multiple QA teams for success

Influences through others, builds direct and behind the scenes support for ideas. Preemptively sees downstream consequences and effectively tailors influencing strategy to support a positive outcome

Able to verbalize what is behind decisions and downstream implications. Continuously reflecting on success and failures to improve performance and decision-making. Understands when change is needed. Participates in technical strategy planning

Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team. Able to navigate accountability in a matrix organization

Skilled in coordinating and facilitating project work across diverse teams who are distributed globally and across multiple companies

Communicates and demonstrates a shared sense of purpose. Learns from failure.
