Senior Staff Attorney
The candidate will work in the LGBTQ Rights and Special Litigation practice group. Will develop and litigate individual and class action cases raising constitutional and statutory claims in state and federal court and develops and leads multi-strategy advocacy campaigns to advance the rights of LGBTQ people and victims of hate and extremism, and to stem the tide of online radicalization and extremism. Provide opportunities to work on cases and campaigns vindicating and advancing the rights of incarcerated people, immigrants, and/or economically disadvantaged communities. Develop new cases and campaigns and lead litigation and public advocacy in the area of LGBTQ Rights and fighting hate and extremists under the supervision of a Deputy Legal Director and/or Senior Supervising Attorney. Manage and direct the legal work of Staff Attorneys, Law Fellows, and/or other legal staff. Collaborate with the Deputy Legal Director and State Policy Directors to identify and support the advancement of state and local policy priorities. Collaborate with the Deputy Legal Director and the Communications Department to develop communication strategies around cases and campaigns. Serve as spokesperson upon request. Supervise outreach activities related to cases and campaigns. Communicate regularly with staff across the southern region about cases, campaigns, and strategies. Represent organization in various fora, including before community groups, legislatures, state agencies, and the media.
