Interim Staff Attorney
Duties: Complete intakes following presentations. Undertake direct representation, as necessary, for children in their cases before the immigration authorities, state courts, and/or review boards, and continue representation if children are released locally in the greater Houston area or transferred to another ORR or adult facility locally. File all relevant paperwork and applications with government agencies, immigration court, and state courts, where applicable. Contribute to overall office functioning, including joining field office and wide calls and meetings, participating in field office and wide committees, and assisting with office events. Ensure entry of timely, accurate, and detailed case data into case management systems. As needed, supervise Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, interns, and/or other non-legal staff including: onboarding, skills training, daily support and coaching, review and quality assurance of filings, regular check-ins and performance evaluations, and provision of consistent and effective supervision and oversight. Assist with periodic trainings and presentations for community partners and/or pro bono attorneys. Serve as an ambassador of KIND with local coalitions, courts, and agencies.
