What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a summer 2023 intern to be part of our growing Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas practice. SCS’s goal is to provide a student intern with valuable technical and engineering business experience through our diverse range of projects for the clients we serve. In addition, we believe this opportunity provides a student intern the ability to explore the beginnings of their own career path. As an intern, you may work with us on permitting, compliance, monitoring and other field sampling, landfill gas, odor, and related projects.

You will work up to 40 hours per week typically. The paid internship will start in May/June 2023 and end in August/September 2023. Your exact start and end date will be determined in order to fit with your school schedule.

How you can make an impact as an Intern

You contribute to our projects by assisting SCS project teams with the following tasks:

Air quality permitting and compliance

Greenhouse gas emissions compliance, including verification

Landfill gas and odor studies

General regulatory compliance

Various air quality permitting tasks for solid waste and industrial facility projects.

Specific technical work may include air modeling, completing emission calculations, reviewing compliance issues, preparing permitting documentation, reviewing data, research, and report writing as well as related services.

Work may also include in field activities, such as site inspections, collection of air and gas samples, monitoring, etc.

Assistance with marketing and preparation of proposals may be conducted on an as needed basis

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Policy, or Studies (or a related science or engineering degree) and graduating by June 2025 required

Quick learner that can work independently

Data review, analysis, and reporting skills

Interpersonal and communication skills, including good writing skills

Strong working knowledge and use of MS-Excel

Previous leadership experience

Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required

Ability to travel to SCS office in Long Beach CA for a work day

Pay for this role is between $18-$20/hour depending on your experience.
