In this role, the position reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering for MPEx. As Director of the Project Engineering Department, the successful candidate will provide engineering leadership to the Project Engineering Department, MPEx Engineering and MPEx Business Units, while supporting GA-ASI business objectives.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Overall responsibility for project engineering activities on all MPEx projects and programs. Manage and mentor a team of 35 Project EngineersLead a cross-functional technical team in development of technical solutions/designs while managing cost and schedule.Demonstrate technical expertise in 1 or more fields relevant to Missions Systems core business, EO/IR, EW, Radar.Adhere to development processes; Organize and lead technical reviews and gain stakeholder approval.Support development of business/strategic objectives and system concept-of-operations. Will also include refinement and application of engineering standards and processes for MPEx. Provide leadership and direct all activities of the Project Engineering Department including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business and financial objectives are attained.Participate in and support input for contractual negotiations and contract modifications.Participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).Act as the primary contact for the department’s activities, lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.Establish design concepts and architectures, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and testing.Identify engineering issues and provides leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.Develop and implement annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the program(s)/project(s) and participate in the development of Department/Division/Company objectives.Direct and actively participate in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to primarily staff the Project Engineering Department, while also assisting the other groupsDirect and actively participate in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to primarily staff the SEI&T Department, while also assisting the other groups.We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.Job QualificationsTypically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as fifteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least nine of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.Demonstrates technical expertise in the application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, and government representatives. Must be customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.Ability to communicate with customers, and to manage customer expectations is required. Previous experience contributing to the design, development and manufacture of unmanned aircraft is a huge plus.Willingness and ability to support new business development efforts are essential and required. Knowledge of DoD requirements generation and military system acquisition processes is highly desirable.Professional Engineering License, and original work(s) published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
