A law firm seeks an Associate Litigation Attorney based in New York, NY, to support its casualty, premises liability, and environmental defense practice. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with a Senior Partner on a variety of defense matters and benefit from a hybrid work arrangement.
Duties
Draft a range of legal documents, including complaints, motions, discovery requests, and responses
Assist with all stages of discovery by preparing for and conducting depositions, issuing interrogatories, and reviewing incoming documents
Take and defend depositions under attorney supervision
Conduct thorough legal research to support the case strategy and briefing
Appear at court hearings, status conferences, and other proceedings as needed
Coordinate with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies and participate in case management meetings
Requirements
Licensed to practice law in New York (New Jersey admission considered a plus)
Between 3–5 years of civil litigation experience in New York, specifically in casualty defense, premises liability, or environmental liability matters
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments under the guidance of senior counsel
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail
Proven aptitude for legal research, drafting persuasive briefs, and working collaboratively in a team environment
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications
Admission to the New York State Bar
Skills
Advanced legal research techniques and familiarity with relevant case law databases
Effective deposition preparation and examination skills
Proficient drafting of pleadings, motions, and discovery papers
Excellent organizational skills for handling high-volume document review and case files
Strong interpersonal abilities for working with clients, witnesses, and senior attorneys
Capacity to make courtroom appearances and advocate on behalf of clients when directed
