Assistant Attorney General
The candidate will work for Criminal Appeals Division. Will be responsible for representing the State of New Mexico in appeals from criminal cases taken to the New Mexico Court of Appeals and the New Mexico Supreme Court. The primary duties involve legal writing and research at a high level of proficiency. Will be responsible for conducting oral arguments in the appellate courts. Provide advice and guidance to employees at the various District Attorneys’ offices. Also involve representation of state prison wardens in state or federal habeas corpus cases. Relevant experience includes a demonstration of the ability to write well in a timely fashion, an ability to work independently with little supervision, the skill to remain highly organized while working on multiple assignments and deadlines, and an ability to analyze and argue persuasively in support of lawful criminal convictions. Must hold an active license in good standing to practice in New Mexico, or be eligible to seek a public employee limited license for government service under Rule 15-301.1 of the New Mexico Rules Governing Admission to the Bar.
