Employment Counsel
The candidate will be responsible for: Provide pragmatic day-to-day employment advice and counseling to members of the People Team in order to unblock business needs and appropriately balance achievement of business objectives against legal risk. Audit wage and hour practices to ensure compliance with the FLSA, the California Labor Code, and state laws around the country, including with respect to exempt/non-exempt classification, worker/independent contractor classification, administration of compensation programs, and timekeeping and payroll practices. Partner closely with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s Employee Relations professionals on employee complaints and investigations. Collaborate with other members of the Employment Team and Employee Relations team to review and/or develop and implement scalable employment policies, practices, and programs. Develop and deliver training to managers and employees. Must be comfortable with public speaking. Investigate pre-litigation and litigation matters and develop and implement strategies for early resolution (as appropriate), including with respect to agency charges (DLSE, DFEH, EEOC, DOL, OSHA, etc.). Monitor important developments in employment law in jurisdictions across the country, striving to spot trends in their infancy. Work and build trust with cross-functional partners from teams across the Legal Department and the Company. Work closely with and manage outside counsel in connection with litigation matters, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, and trial strategies. Travel from time-to-time as necessary to service internal clients; develop cross-office relationships; and attend legal proceedings/negotiations. Should have 4+ years practicing law at a leading law firm and/or in-house, with significant wage and hour counseling experience. Experience with FLSA class actions and PAGA litigation a plus. Must have Active and in good standing with the California bar or eligible to practice as Registered In-House Counsel. Should have J.D. from a top-tier law school or relevant work experience. Must have excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
