Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a highly motivated Patent Agent with experience in patent prosecution and litigation to join a dedicated team specializing in Electrical Engineering & Software or Mechanical Engineering. This position is open to qualified candidates looking to contribute to a dynamic practice group, providing exceptional services in patent prosecution, litigation, and other intellectual property matters. The ideal candidate will have a technical background in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related fields, and experience with patent application drafting and prosecution.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications for a variety of clients, with a focus on electrical engineering, software, and mechanical technologies.
• Support litigation efforts, including patent enforcement, disputes, and trials.
• Review and analyze patent portfolios and provide strategic guidance to clients.
• Collaborate with inventors and technical teams to ensure robust protection of intellectual property.
• Conduct prior art searches, analyze patentability, and prepare responses to office actions.
• Advise clients on patent strategy, infringement risks, and opportunities for patent protection.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of work and communications.
• Work closely with senior attorneys and other professionals in the firm on various IP matters.

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including the drafting of patent applications.
• A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
• Experience in patent litigation is a plus.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills (both written and oral).
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle complex technical concepts.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to working with clients and team members.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

Certifications:

• U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) registration is required.

Skills:

• Expertise in patent prosecution and application drafting.
• Strong knowledge of patent law, intellectual property regulations, and best practices.
• Experience in patent litigation and IP dispute resolution is a plus.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex technical documents.
• Excellent writing, drafting, and communication abilities.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
