Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Settlement Attorney to join its Employment Class Action team. This position will primarily focus on handling PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) cases, class action work, and cases involving wage/hour and FEHA (Fair Employment and Housing Act) components. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in California employment law, with experience in negotiating and finalizing settlements, drafting motions, and working with third-party administrators to carry out settlement agreements.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Finalize terms of class and PAGA settlements in Motions of Understanding (MOUs).
  • Convert MOUs into long-form settlement agreements, including negotiating and finalizing key settlement terms with defense counsel.
  • Assist attorneys in drafting motions for preliminary and final approval of class action settlements.
  • Draft declarations in support of preliminary and final approval of settlements.
  • Collaborate with settlement administrators in finalizing settlement administration reports.
  • Assist in the drafting of comprehensive settlement agreements.
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients regarding settlements and information required for settlement processing.
  • Interact with third-party settlement administrators to execute the terms of the settlement agreement.

Requirements:

  • Licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Significant experience finalizing settlement terms, including drafting MOUs and long-form settlement agreements.
  • Experience in drafting motions for preliminary and final approval of class action settlements.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage complex settlement matters.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Reliable commute to or plans to relocate to Los Angeles, CA (90010).

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the California State Bar (required).

Skills:

  • Expertise in California employment law, particularly PAGA and class action cases.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents, including settlement agreements, motions, and declarations.
  • Strong negotiation skills for finalizing settlement terms.
  • Excellent communication and client coordination abilities.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
