POSITION PURPOSE:

The Manager of Rental Operations has a wide scope of ownership, optimizing current store and field processes while assisting in the development and execution of key strategic/growth initiatives in the HD Rental business. This role is responsible for the development and performance of a team of analysts.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

40% Manage overall project execution and project flow, be able to work in various project teams, coordinate multiple functional groups, use project management and financial tools to effectively execute multiple projects simultaneously

25% Support strategic initiative planning and execution. Assist business leaders in the development and communication of specific operational/merchandising initiatives that will drive the overall rental strategy. Support periodic reviews of key strategic initiatives

25% Conduct ad hoc analysis and provide recommendations on a wide variety of

strategic business decisions important to the Leadership Team; examples include: 1.) Growth initiatives and strategic projects 2.) Benchmarking (intra and intercompany), 3.) Operational and financial decisions related to the rental business

10% Provide market and competitive business intelligence. Monitor and assess

macro trends in the rental marketplace. Maintain competitive overviews using publically available information both financial and strategic – and conduct routine competitor visits

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Reports to Director, Tool Rental

Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be eighteen years of age or older.

Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience

4 years

Physical Requirements:

Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years of retail consulting experience or process management; MBA or related Master's Degree (ex: Operations Management, etc.) encouraged

Strong big picture and strategic thinking skills balanced with analytical capabilities

Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

Ability to partner/communicate well with all levels of an organization, from C-suite to store associates

Proven ability to build high-performing teams

Capacity for limited travel and visiting vendors/stores, at times up to 25%

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Superior analytic skills (quantitative and qualitative)

General management skills

Strong presentation / communication skills

Ability to influence at all levels in the organization

Position frequently works directly with executives across the company on a variety of strategic projects

The Home Depot was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. Along with investment banker Ken Langone and merchandising guru Pat Farrah, the founders’ vision of one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourselfer came to fruition when they opened the first two Home Depot stores on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta, Georgia. The first stores, at around 60,000 square feet each, were cavernous warehouses that dwarfed the competition and stocked 25,000 SKUs, much more than the average hardware store at that time. Empty boxes piled high on the shelves gave the illusion of even more product. From the start, associates were able to offer the best customer service in the industry, guiding customers through projects such as laying tile, changing a fill valve or handling a power tool. Not only did store associates undergo rigorous product knowledge training, but they also began offering clinics so customers could learn how to do it themselves. The Home Depot revolutionized the home improvement industry by bringing the know-how and the tools to the consumer and by saving them money.
