The University of Plymouth, a leading University in the South-West, is seeking to recruit a Building Fabric and Civils Specialist to work as part of our Estates team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a progressive and cutting-edge University in a beautiful location, where you can really make a difference. Estates and Facilities have exciting and ambitious plans for the development of the University Estate. The ‘Master Plan’ includes the development of the landmark Intercity place; an 11 story building overlooking Plymouth Railway Station, and a new Engineering and Design Facility on the western edge of the main Plymouth campus. We are looking for a Building Fabric and Civils Specialist to join the team and be an integral part of managing and maintaining our evolving estate. The University is a multi-site operation with a sizeable proportion of its activities taking place on or close to the main campus in Plymouth, which is where this role is based. This will be a site-based role, where, as the Building Fabric and Civils subject matter expert, you will take responsibility for the Universities Buildings and its associated assets, policies, processes and safe systems of work. A major focus of the role is on planned and reactive maintenance works, where you will manage multiple subcontractors for all building fabric and civils related works. This includes, but is not limited to; Survey works, Inspection Audits and managing building fabric and civil planned, remedial and corrective works. The Building Fabric and Civils Specialist will form an integral part of the Estates Maintenance team and will ensure that maintenance and project works are compliant with appropriate legislation and regulations. You will require a thorough understanding, knowledge and experience of Building Surveying, Civil or Structural Engineering or Construction. It is essential that you are a professional with Building qualifications and experience. You must be up to date with current legislation and regulations. The essential qualification and training requirements are: City & Guilds and/or BTEC certification at further education level or above (e.g. HNC) or demonstrable equivalent experience in a building construction, civil engineering or surveying. To have or be willing to gain NEBOSH, IOSH or other equivalent H&S qualification The following is desirable: Professional membership to a governing body such as RICS or CIOB is preferred, but not essential. Must be willing to gain registration. Knowledge in Health and Safety compliance including asbestos and Radon is desirable Asbestos P405 & P402 You will have excellent people skills, with a willingness to engage with customers in order to provide solutions and assurance.
