Intellectual Property Paralegal

Duties: Ensures the USC Stevens patent docket is properly maintained and that all records are maintained with accurate and up to date information and dates to ensure that no patent/patent application deadlines are missed. Organizes, enters and maintains data and documents in the docket database in a timely manner. Organizes, enters and maintains data in an industry standard annuity services database, such as CPA in a timely manner. Communicates with external annuity service providers on annuity payment or abandonment instructions. Calculates due dates and enters all due dates and reminder dates as appropriate into the docket and annuity services databases. Annotates all entries as appropriate. Performs on-line searches via public websites at the USPTO and foreign patent offices regarding patent family information, inventor information, assignment and other data as needed. Reviews incoming Patent correspondence (including U.S. mail, e-mail etc.) addressed to the Patent Team, or other Stevens team members to determine due dates, reminder dates or other dates and update the USC docket database with this information. Scans and uploads all related documents into the corresponding records. Reviews outgoing Patent correspondence and update databases accordingly with all appropriate information and copies of the correspondence. Reviews granted patent documents to determine maintenance requirements, calculate term and confirm accuracy of inventor data. Updates patent docket with all information and upload copies of all documents. Tracks critical dates and related details utilizing patent docket. Prepares regular reports for the Licensing team and others. Creates and distributes docket reports and follow up with Stevens staff to ensure appropriate conclusions. Identifies, recommends and documents changes to IP docketing policies, procedures, forms, etc. to provide better service and support to Stevens staff. Conducts periodic audits of active matters to confirm integrity of docketing system. Prepares documents for signature by the appropriate authorized official.
