Intellectual Property Paralegal
The candidate will be responsible for supporting maintenance of the firm’s IP portfolio, and maintaining technology and patent information in firm’s database. Will track and manage patent prosecution workflow including communications between licensing officers, inventors, and outside counsel. Maintaining comprehensive records of upcoming actions and deadlines in the PCI database, docketing incoming patent correspondence, compiling detailed information about upcoming actions, creating reports on prosecution status, obtaining cost estimates and approvals of legal work, and interacting directly with inventors to obtain feedback and signatures on patent-related documents. Also negotiate inter-institutional agreements, client billing agreements, confidential disclosure agreements and return of invention assignments. Managing deadlines, and ensuring that important information is being correctly communicated and recorded in the PCI database. Must have Associates Degree, Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. 3-5 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience in IP law or Technology Transfer is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, team player, experience with technology transfer database software is highly desirable. Experience with Microsoft Office Applications is required. Experience managing patent prosecution working as a paralegal, intellectual property manager, or other equivalent position is preferred. Working knowledge of patent prosecution deadlines, forms, processes, and terminology is an asset. Understanding of university technology transfer, legal documents and/or intellectual property is preferred.
