The Senior Finance Analyst will be a key participant in the preparation and review of the annual financial statements of the stand-alone defined benefit pension plans and defined contribution plans sponsored by GM and certain U.S. and Canadian affiliates, and play a vital role in the annual audit and regulatory filing processes. This position requires considerable interaction with various internal departments such as employee benefits, legal, tax and investment management as well as with external auditors and other third party benefit plan service providers (e.g. trustees, record keepers, actuaries, etc.). The senior analyst will also partake in the assembling of global pension investments data for inclusion in the GM annual Form 10-K report. The role requires a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity and initiative. Responsibilities will include:
Preparing audited benefit plan financial statements, including all footnote disclosures, to support annual regulatory filings required by D.O.L., I.R.S. and certain Canadian governmental authorities
Preparing the annual Form 5500 and other applicable reports filed with the D.O.L / I.R.S for all GM sponsored benefit plans subject to E.R.I.S.A. reporting requirements
Facilitating annual audit activities which encompasses preparing workpaper analyses, examining data submissions from internal and external parties and coordinating deliverables to the external auditors
Reviewing and compiling domestic and international pension investments information for the required fair value disclosures in the annual SEC Form 10-K filing
Performing research on complex accounting and financial reporting matters attributable to the plans and/or company as applicable
Reviewing/preparing monthly benefits related journal entries and reconciliations
Updating/preparing desk procedures for area(s) of responsibility
Participating in SOX initiatives
Maintaining support documentation/files for area of responsibility
Identifying enhancements to work flows and analysis methodologies
Keeping current on relevant technical accounting standards
Participating in special projects as required
Degree in Accounting and CPA (or equivalent) - active license holder
A minimum of 5 years of combined industry and public accounting experience in benefits or plan accounting required
Solid technical accounting background
Strong interpersonal, oral and written skills
Solid understanding of internal controls
Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within established time constraints
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
Demonstrated problem solving and analytical abilities
Ability to assimilate information quickly in a consistent and accurate manner
Proactive work style and desire to take on additional responsibilities
Aptitude to resolve issues and embrace and manage change
Highly Preferred:
Experience in the area of employee benefit plan accounting and reporting; thorough knowledge of ASC 820, 960, 962 and D.O.L reporting regulations
Familiarity with Canadian benefit plan regulatory filing requirements and International Financial Reporting Standards
