Billing Appeals Coordinator

The candidate will be drafting narrative corrections on initial billing documents for attorneys’ approval to minimize future reductions taken by our insurance carriers. Drafting narrative corrections on appeals of insurance carrier billing reductions for attorney approval to optimize success on appeals. Managing deadlines for initial bill review so that the billing team receives the audited pre-bills to ensure timely billing. Working directly with the practice group attorneys to receive their feedback and suggestions on pre-bill edits. Maintaining a log of the success of appeals and the acceptance rate by the Carrier bill review team and routinely sharing that information with the practice group to minimize future audits and optimize success on appeals. Collaborate with the Appeals Team, its Director, and Billing & Collections to identify opportunities to decrease reductions under the Outside Counsel Guidelines for all carriers and keep informed of changes to insurance carriers’ Outside Counsel Guidelines, assessing the impact of these changes on existing processes and procedures. Participate in process improvement initiatives, including evaluating the Firm’s current protocols by addressing questions and issues arising in normal daily activities. Identify opportunities for process improvements and enhancements to current training to minimize future reductions. Promote a high level of customer service; ensure excellent service is provided to the Firm’s Principals and clients on both an individual and team basis. Should have High School Diploma. Bachelor’s degree preferred; 2+ years of experience in legal billing, appeals submission, or legal invoice auditing preferred. Experience with insurance carrier billing guidelines is preferred. Paralegal/legal secretary experience preferred. Knowledge of Aderant and BillBlast is a plus; strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word); highly organized; willing to take initiative; excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
