Tax Manager - State and Local (SALT)
The candidate will perform tax research and provide technical advice on state & local tax issues. Assist multi-state companies with state & local tax compliance. Investigate and respond to tax agency notices, including those involving unreported income, delinquency penalties, unfiled forms and returns, enforced collection (liens, levies, warrants, garnishments). Prepare and file tax voluntary disclosure submissions, Streamlined submissions, Delinquent International Information Return Submission Procedures submissions, Delinquent FBAR submissions. Handle all aspects of tax agency audits, including communicating with auditors, responding to IDR’s, gathering documents and information from clients. Perform tax research, prepare written memoranda discussing and analyzing tax issues. Communicate effectively with tax agency personnel, clients, senior and junior staff. Manage multiple client projects. Advise clients of the tax implications relating to their business objectives, recommend alternate courses of action as well as identify different methods of complying with state tax regulations. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field is needed. Should have 5+ years of relevant work and industry experience. Advanced knowledge of sales & use tax, as well as, income & franchise tax is needed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed. Strong consulting experience is needed. Should have the ability to work independently and also work well with others. CPA License or on track to obtain is preferred. Masters of Taxation or Law Degree is essential. Software Experience - CCH ProSystem, Microsoft Office 365, tax research databases, such as: CCH, BNA & RIA Checkpoint as well as sales tax compliance software, such as: Avalara or Vertex. Working knowledge of unclaimed property is needed.
