Description

The Manager, Financial Underwriting leads a regional team supporting new and existing business underwriting for Humana's Specialty products. Leads a team of underwriting professionals to support new business group strategies and group retention. Manages relationships with regional Sales team(s) and internal support teams. Computes rates for both renewing and prospective moderate to complex group accounts. The Manager, Financial Underwriting works within specific guidelines and procedures; applies advanced technical knowledge to solve moderately complex problems; receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines approach, resources, schedules and goals.

Responsibilities

The Manager, Financial Underwriting leads a team of underwriting professionals focused on Humana's Specialty group products (Dental, Vision, Life, DI) aligned to a regional market footprint. The manager establishes strategies in collaboration with the market Sales leaders to increase new business sales and renewal business persistency. The manager collaborates with team members to deliver a highly consultative experience to our sales partners. The individual may prepare a variety of financial reports for large accounts, provide rationale and support to other areas within the organization, and to clients regarding rate computations and financial performance. Collaborates with team members to provide expense estimates and accurate analysis of financial exhibits. Decisions are typically related to financial performance of new and existing group accounts, managing resources and underwriting processes, approach, and tactical operations for projects and initiatives involving own departmental area. Requires cross departmental collaboration, and conducts briefings and area meetings; maintains frequent contact with other managers across the department.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

6 or more years of underwriting or financial analysis/risk analysis experience

Comprehensive understanding of risk pool management

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access

2 or more years of management experience

Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office (Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role). A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 10x1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree

Experience underwriting rates for complex accounts

Experience analyzing a wide variety of health or claims related data

Experience leading others involved in underwriting procedures

Dental and Vision Underwriting experience

Group Life and Disability Product Underwriting experience

Additional Information

Humana and its subsidiaries require vaccinated associates who work outside of their home to submit proof of vaccination, including COVID-19 boosters.
