Title IX Coordinator
Responsibilities: Responding to Notice of an incident involving Sexual or Gender-Based Harassment. Receive and promptly respond to disclosures about potential discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Meet with students, staff, faculty, and third parties and make them aware of the resources that exist and the options that are available to them. Coordinate referrals to other offices, departments, off-campus resources, and Title IX Coordinators as appropriate. Embody approachability and demonstrate sensitivity in working with individuals of all races, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and sexual orientations. Collaborate with Title IX Coordinators across the University and the Title IX Officer to address disclosures that cross University affiliations. Conduct informal factfinding when on notice but more information is needed for the University to respond, consulting with the Title IX Office, OGC, HUPD, the Deputy Title IX Coordinators, and others. Assess potential community safety concerns that pertain to Title IX and take steps to address them promptly and effectively. Implement interim measures as necessary in order to mitigate challenges that prevent an individual from accessing University resources. Institute investigations for informal reports and formal complaints pursuant to the Sexual Harassment Resources and Procedures for Students and the Sexual Harassment Procedures for Complaints Against Faculty: hiring external consultants, facilitating scheduling for interviews and hearings, and maintaining communications with the complainants and respondents. Work with the Administrative Board to institute the Interschool Sexual Harassment Procedures and the appeal process under the Sexual Harassment Resources and Procedures for Students, as needed. Communicate regularly with ODR and track progress of cases being investigated by ODR, serving as a liaison to investigations as necessary. Assist the Dean, as requested, with carrying out the duties of the Sexual Harassment Procedures for Complaints Against Faculty. Maintain careful and detailed records about disclosures, interim measures, informal resolutions, and formal complaints. Serve as a liaison to relevant faculty committees and workgroups (Title IX Procedures Committee and Title IX Prevention Education Workgroup). Oversee the maintenance of lists of investigators and adjudicators for proceedings under the faculty and student procedures, adding additional individuals as needed. Oversee the maintenance of the Title IX Budget and tracking of expenses. Monitor compliance with Title IX in consultation with the University Title IX Officer, Deputy Title IX Coordinators and the Office of General Counsel. Stay informed about best practices and the federal guidelines and guidance related to Title IX and University compliance. Ensure that all documents, including but not limited to, the Academic Handbook and the Faculty Handbook, reflect compliance with the university policy and procedures, procedures, and federal guidelines and guidance. Prepare and facilitate ongoing training and consultation on Title IX to responsible employees—including staff, faculty, and student employees—and students. Ensure investigators, adjudicators, and others involved with processing Title IX complaints are adequately trained in compliance with Title IX guidance. Design and develop orientation programs for all students around Title IX and issues of sexual harassment. Ensure leadership is apprised of Title IX issues at HLS. Develop, disseminate, and regularly update educational materials to clarify Title IX and policies and procedures. Oversee the maintenance of the Title IX Website. Coordinate efforts to foster a community of respect that aims to prevent discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Formulate recommendations to improve existing systems around issues of Title IX compliance, consult with Title IX Officer as needed. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with other offices on campus (i.e. Title IX Office, ODR, the Administrative Board, OSAPR, HUPD, OGC, HUHS, and a number of Offices including the Office of Career Services, Bernard Koteen Office of Public Interest Advising, Office of Clinical and Pro Bono Programs, Graduate Program, Admissions Office, Academic Affairs, Finance, Accessibility Services, Registrar’s Office, Dean of Students Office, Human Resources, and Dean’s Office). Produce reports regarding the state of Title IX at HLS, as needed.
