Professional Development Manager
The candidate will manage strategy and support for all attorney integration and retention initiatives including retreats, academies, new associate orientation, mentoring, and other Firm culture and morale programs. Report to the Director of Professional Development, develop and implement innovative programs and initiatives to increase attorney engagement, foster community, and drive the Firm’s development and retention strategy. Work with PD Director and Legal Talent professionals to develop strategy for firmwide development, engagement, and retention programs and initiatives. Design and execute annual Associate Retreat, as well as Academy curriculums for legal, professional, and business skills training and enrichment programming to support attorney development. Manage all aspects of the firm YOUniversity, the Firm’s training, and development ecosystem. Evaluate and seek feedback on all programs through electronic surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one settings to evaluate regularly revise, amend, and improve program content. Manage firmwide mentoring program, including strategy, program enhancements, technology implementation, training, and annual budget. Coordinate with Professional Development and Coaching teams to analyze exit and stay interview responses, and coaching themes and suggest responsive measures through the development or enhancement of programming and initiatives as appropriate. Collaborate with the Professional Development and Practice Management teams on attorney benchmarking initiatives. Monitor external trends and best practices in connection with attorney career paths, staffing, mentoring, feedback, training, and compensation. Assist the Legal Talent Department in identifying and implementing additional processes and process improvements to meet business goals. Oversees onboarding and integration processes to ensure consistency across all offices and practices. Partner with Recruiting and other internal administrative departments to facilitate successful attorney onboarding and integration, including conducting department orientation and training for new hires and building robust onboarding schedules. Serve as a resource to attorneys throughout their onboarding and integration period, liaising with various departments and individuals throughout the firm to answer questions and provide support. Collaborate with Recruiting, DEI, and HR on initiatives that foster a diverse and inclusive culture and promote overall engagement. Ensure the professional development needs of all attorneys are considered and addressed. Collaborate with HR to promote attorney well-being and develop initiatives and policies focused on wellness. Collaborate with finance and HR teams to manage reporting needs, attorney status changes, and related compliance matters. Assist with other Professional Development initiatives as needed. College degree is required, plus any combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Should have 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably with a law or professional services firm, or in a corporate environment.
