We are seeking a NetApp Storage Management Consultant
for our Professional Services team. In this role, you will work to meet the requirements of NetApp clients by deploying both the operational processes and supporting technical architectures that deliver the highest efficiency for NetApp solutions. This role will work with Storage Solution Architects/Sr. Operations Consultants to translate business requirements into technology solutions – governed by ITSM-based best practices. This senior consulting role will be expected to position and deliver company marketed solution sets and other custom consulting while working closely with the sales team to present solutions to customers’ unique requirements. Qualified candidates will possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and have extensive consulting experience in storage operation environments
Responsibilities:
* Interact with our customer’s IT engineering and architecture teams to ensure the continuity of solutions within the client data center
* Consult on storage infrastructure and operational solutions tailored to meet the customer’s needs
* Integrate NetApp solutions into the customer’s IT Service Management (ITSM) data center services
* Advise on best practices for improving operational processes within the IT Service Management (ITSM) Framework
* Be a trusted advisor to the customer and account team
* Be an advocate of the customer’s infrastructure needs to the NetApp Account Team
* Project planning for tasks of moderate to high complexity
* Configure NetApp hardware and software products
* Analyze requirements and gather technical details regarding a customer’s environment
* Implement backup and restore, disaster recovery, storage consolidation, data protection, storage performance, etc., in accordance with the customer’s ITSM processes
* Perform Storage Efficiency Optimization activities such as upgrades, performance tuning, and system audit tasks
* Mentor any Resident Engineers or Administrators on the account / project
* Be the Technical Lead for the delivery team (Engineers/Administrators) throughout the engagement
* Interpret enterprise class assessments (objectives, data collection, analysis, reporting against objectives)
* Leverage NetApp’s Project Delivery Methodology (PDM – Assess, Consult, Deploy, Close/Transition)
Typical customer environments include:
* Operating Systems: UNIX and Windows systems administration functions including domain structures, file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, and general security
* Networking: Local area network technology, specifically Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons, FC switches and directors, network architectures including hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and switches
* Storage: SAN and NAS storage, data replication, storage efficiency and manageability software
* IT application environment: Full spectrum of the technical environment: infrastructure, backups and business applications (Oracle, SAP, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint, MS SQL, etc.)
This individual will act as consultant to our customers and drive key projects with project planning, project management, requirements analysis, architecture/design, installations, implementation, optimization, and customer support throughout the process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and administer major portions of the implementation and engineering efforts including:
* Design/architect the operations management solution
* Identify personnel for delivery teams
* Manage client deliverables
* Communicate with clients and management
* Work with the Engagement Manager to scope and write detailed Statements of Work
* Engage in sales team activities to scope service deliverables with the ability to translate a customer’s business issues into NetApp deliverables
* Provide technical Project management for engagements
* Improve on of NetApp’s consulting best practices
* Leverage NetApp’s Project Delivery Methodology (PDM – Assess, Consult, Deploy, Close/Transition)
* Service Operations (ITILv3) – Responsible for delivering solutions in the context of ITILv3 Services Operations. The Consultant will investigate changes in the infrastructure and ITSM processes to help improve SLAs and quality of delivery. The Storage Management Consultant will be responsible for monitoring operations and making recommendations for change. Key functions include interfacing with Operations Managers, Storage Management Engineers, Storage Administrators and the Service Desk to ensure operational excellence for the following services:
-- Service Request Management

-- Access Management
* Service Transition (ITILv3) – The Consultant will be required to consult on storage related projects for IT and is expected to incorporate the following process as defined by our customers. In addition this role is responsible for the continuous improvement of NetApp’s linkage to these services:
-- Service Asset and Configuration Management
-- Service Validation and Testing
-- Evaluation
-- Release Management
-- Change Management
-- Knowledge Management
* Service Design (ITILv3) – The Consultant will focus on the integration of the following services into NetApp’s solutions to enhance the viability and sustainability of our storage footprint with our customers. The Consultant will be responsible for defining the metrics and SLAs for the these and other ITIL services:
-- Service Catalogue Management
-- Service Level Management
-- Risk Management
-- Capacity Management
-- Availability Management
-- IT Service Continuity Management
-- Information Security Management
-- Compliance Management
-- IT Architecture Management
-- Supplier Management
* Continual Service Improvement – CSI (ITILv3) – The Consultant is the owner of the CSI strategy and will work with the customer to define the metrics and reports that will be given to IT management and NetApp account teams. The CSI strategy will be executed by the on-site residents and account team members to ensure every effort is made to improve performance for the customer. These services include:
-- Service Level Management

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
* Must have a high degree of technical proficiency and be able to understand the customers’ business requirements in order to translate these requirements into a proposed technical solution

-- Strong knowledge of RAID, Fiber Channel, SCSI, DLT
-- In-depth knowledge of Windows, UNIX and/or System Administration skills on products such as NetApp, SUN, HP, IBM, EMC
-- Windows: Good knowledge of the various versions of windows platforms. Understand share and NTFS security concepts.
-- UNIX: Good knowledge of Berkeley, Linux, and/or System V Unix system administration concepts including disk and network administration, NFS and NIS/NIS administration
-- Networking: Knowledge of Ethernet, IP, DNS and NIS associated daemons. Knowledge of network architectures including hubs, repeaters, bridges, routers, and switches.
-- FCP / SAN technologies – Switches and directors
-- Storage: Knowledge of storage administration and the concepts of file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, mirroring and sizing
-- Expert knowledge of NAS, DAS, SAN (fabric attached architectures)
-- Expert with storage sizing, performance and high availability
-- Experience with Data ONTAP fundamentals
-- Operational experience with NetApp’s Manageability Software (Operations Manager, Provisioning Manager, Protection Manager)
-- Working knowledge of the planning, implementing and tuning of NetApp’s SANscreen product
* Job Requirements
-- Prior consulting experience such as providing strategic and tactical planning for data management and delivery systems
-- Broad exposure to a variety of technologies/concepts in a distributed environment
-- Experience in project management of storage solutions
-- Excellent analytical/problem solving abilities
-- Ability to drive the selection of, and negotiation of scope with NetApp consulting partners
-- Desire to travel up to 85% and engage onsite with client as the engagement dictates
-- Able to learn quickly and stay focused on the task at hand
-- Maintain composure and professionalism under challenging circumstances
-- Able to accommodate “on call” duties or work after hours if necessary
-- A strong command of ITIL concepts and the ability to operate within an IT Service Management framework
-- The ability to develop SLA based solutions and report the associated metrics as required
-- Familiarity with ticket management systems and the function of an IT helpdesk
-- The ability to follow strict procedures for implementation, operations and escalations
-- Strong desire to continuously grow and improve NetApp’s IT Service Management capabilities within our customer data centers
-- Strong troubleshooting skills
DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
* A minimum of 12 years of experience is required
* A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience is required
* Networking and Fiber Chanel experience
* NCDA Certified preferred
* NCIE Certifications preferred
* ITILv3 foundation Certified required
* ITILv3 Intermediate level certification for ITL Lifecycle stream in the following 2 streams is preferred:
-- Service Transition
-- Service Operations
* MCP, MCSA and MCSE Certifications are a plus
* Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects
