Job Title: Criminal Defense Attorney
Job Overview:
A respected law firm in Dallas, TX, is seeking a skilled and proactive Criminal Defense Attorney to handle a high-volume docket within the criminal courts of Dallas County. This position offers the opportunity to lead in first-chair trial work, collaborate with experienced colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to client advocacy. The ideal candidate is driven, well-organized, and committed to excellence in criminal defense litigation.
Duties:
Handle a caseload of approximately 150 criminal matters, both active and inactive
Appear daily in criminal court settings across Dallas County
Serve as lead (1st chair) attorney in hearings, bench trials, and jury trials
Conduct in-person meetings with clients at the office and detention facilities
Review and analyze discovery and case evidence
Participate in strategic meetings with the criminal law team
Assist colleagues as second-chair or co-counsel in complex trials
Oversee case-related recordkeeping and ensure timely file updates
Maintain professional relationships with clients, prosecutors, court staff, and judges
Collaborate with the Managing Attorney and contribute to department initiatives
Perform additional legal tasks as assigned within the department
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in the State of Texas
Minimum of 2 years’ experience handling criminal cases
Courtroom experience, including trial work as lead or co-counsel
Excellent legal research, writing, and verbal advocacy skills
Strategic thinking with the ability to manage time-sensitive deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Availability for occasional travel as required
Consistent attendance and reliability in managing court appearances
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Texas Bar Admission in good standing
Skills:
Strong litigation and negotiation techniques
Ability to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
Skilled in handling high-pressure environments with professionalism
Proficient in maintaining case documentation and legal compliance
Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset
