We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and professional individual to build their career with our Transportation Department as a Lead Driver - Night. The successful lead will contribute to our top corporate goals to ensure that Nicholas & Company is the consistent first choice of our customers and team members.

The individual is responsible for driving the productivity and leading by example to maintain established procedures, processes and housekeeping standards in all areas of depot operations.

Lead is responsible for assisting in the supervision of all drivers of depot in assuring that drivers are properly trained and skilled for safe and efficient operation of tractor/trailer combinations and doing customer deliveries.

Flexibility is key; team members should be open to working voluntary and mandatory extra hours and to working at a fast pace.

Our trucks includes dry, cooler and freezer storage. We’ll provide your uniform and appropriate shoes, but be prepared to work in temperatures as low as -10.

This position is physically demanding. It will require you to lift, bend, and navigate heavy product down a ramp repetitively during your route

On a normal day/night you might:

Learn routing functions utilizing Transportation system

Perform daily observations with DSP’s ensuring the preferred standard delivery process is followed and understood

Support the safety culture by assisting team members with PROS and daily observations

Use the AX system to gather information for training and coaching drivers about shorts, mispicks, damages.

Train and certify drivers on all procedure and practices. Ensuring that all drivers are doing driver check in pre-trips/post-trips and all route paperwork is completed as required.

Create a positive work environment for our team members

Train and mentor new drivers thoroughly to assure that they are ready to do routes on their own.

Fill in for drivers on routes when driver calls in sick or on vacation.

Ensure cleanliness is maintained in the Transportation Department

Ensure drivers complete monthly safety refreshers

Perform pre-trip and post-trip in accordance with DOT regulations and Company procedures

Operate Transportation system to track stops and location

Safely operate and deliver product within assigned route schedule using hand cart or by hand

Transport product on ramps, stairs and/or docks

Place product in designated customer delivery area

Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem solving skills; report customer issues immediately

Obey all traffic rules and immediately report accidents or damage; report repair issues immediately

Immediately notify supervisor/sales etc. for any delivery variance

Maintain sanitary conditions and meet standard hygiene requirements

Check invoices for credit terms at each stop and collect funds when needed

Collect, sign, and correctly code all invoices

Turn in reconciliation sheet along with collected funds and invoices to Driver Check-In on a daily basis

On some days/nights you might:

Operate a tractor trailer in traffic and in variable weather conditions

Participate in formalized training and successfully pass evaluations

Must be flexible to travel and work both night and day routes

An ideal Transportation team member:

Is at least 21 years old

Possesses a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with clean MVR (no more than one ticket)

Meets all DOT requirements and possess current medical card

At least two years of increasing responsibility in driving and delivering

Is able to read, write and communicate with internal team members and customers as it relates to the job and to safety regulations

Knowledge in the proper operations of hand trucks, pallet jacks, lift gates, reefers, etc.

Must be able to demonstrate basic math skills

Strong interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to train, motivate, and team members

Well organized with strong attention to deadlines

Able to make timely decisions using sound judgment

Experience ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures, as well as, DOT regulations

Flexible with work schedule and willing to work overtime as needed

Must be able to lift 20-100 lbs. repetitively

Hourly Pay Rate

$30.00 per hour
