InSite Real Estate is a national commercial real estate development company based in Oak Brook, Illinois.  InSite develops, owns, and operates tenant-driven investment property nationwide.  Privately held since its 1988 formation, the company has completed over 400 industrial, office, and retail projects located in over 35 states ranging from 2,000 SF to 2.6 million SF in size, and $1 million to $250 million in value. We are looking for an experienced attorney to join our legal team. This is an opportunity to work directly with accomplished development and engineering professionals in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Providing thoughtful and practical advice and guidance to team members relating to all phases of commercial real estate development, from site identification, acquisition, due diligence, title review, tenanting, construction, contracting, financing, through disposition   
• Negotiating and drafting letters of intent, purchase and sale agreements, leases, loan documents, estoppels, SNDA’s and similar documents; conducting closings
• Analyzing due diligence, including title, survey, environmental and other reports
• Identifying and mitigating risk exposure for the company
• Managing litigation; supporting the HR function; selecting, retaining and working closely with outside counsel
• This position will report directly to the Chief Legal Officer

Qualifications

• 10+ years broad experience in transactional real estate required, including acquisitions, sales, leasing, (including ground leases and sale-leaseback), title insurance, land use planning/entitlements, subdivision, development (including build-to-suit, reverse build-to-suit, and redevelopment projects), construction, sophisticated financing, and litigation management
• Experience should include significant law firm employment. In-house experience, institutional real estate experience or experience with national retailers is a plus
• Documented history working with retail, industrial, office and other asset classes
• Advanced skills in Microsoft products, including Word, Excel and Office; familiarity with third party document management systems
• Ability to learn proprietary software
• Must be capable of working independently without significant direction from superiors, and working collaboratively with other InSite teams including engineers, planners, and business development teams
• Excellent organizational and managerial skills
