Litigation Specialist
Duties: Handling of litigated files in a multi-state and multi-line environment. Evaluation, settlement and handling of 1st and 3rd party Property claims of medium to high severity and complexity. Complete the appropriate reports and communicate with Senior Management on both a local and home office level. Handle 1st and 3rd party litigated property claims of medium to high severity & complexity. Work with attorneys at all levels (pre and post litigation) in resolving disputed claims. Direct defense attorneys throughout the litigation process in accordance with corporate objectives. Maintains attorney – client and attorney work product confidential under the supervision of counsel. Reviews/acts on reports/forms; responds to inquiries; seeks legal opinion and early resolution when necessary and communicates resolution to appropriate parties. Responds to decisions, agreements, and/or court order; creates action plan; determines need for examination. Requests legal/private investigation; assigns to and coordinates with local counsel; monitors local counsel performance. Identifies issues; formulates defense strategy. Establishes/adjusts accrued liability. Attends mediations or hearings as needed. Investigates and evaluates all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages and liability of first-party property damage claims. Establishes timely and accurate claim and expense reserves. Negotiates and convey claim settlements within authority limits. Meets all quality standards and expectations per Best Practices. Maintains an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures. Manages file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases. Handles files in compliance with state regulations, where applicable. Plans effectively and efficiently, organizes and has the ability to handle multiple priorities while working independently. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in files while developing appropriate follow-up measures. Works collaboratively with all departments and external customers. Creates, prepares and analyzes reports on litigation trends and processes. Performs other duties as required.
