Staff Attorney III
The candidate utilizing advanced knowledge of labor and employment laws provides legal support to human resource management and staff of the corporation and its subsidiaries. Contributes to the promotion, development and maintenance of sound labor and employee relations, and plays an integral part in the delivery of services. Provides proactive and high quality consultation services to human resources with respect to a broad range of labor and employment matters. Focus on ensuring compliance with and appropriate interpretation and application of labor and employment laws and collective bargaining agreements. Provides contract interpretation and administration guidelines to subsidiaries regarding collective bargaining agreements, in conjunction with subsidiary policies and practices. Assist subsidiary human resources in labor negotiations to ensure agreements in alignment with subsidiary and corporate goals and objectives. Draft proposals and review contract language. May prepare and compile data for labor negotiations. Investigates and prepares responses to administrative employment claims of more complex nature (e.g. NLRB, EEOC, DOL). Provides legal representation of subsidiaries at administrative agency proceedings such as hearings, mediation and settlement conferences. Provides legal representation of the subsidiaries in union grievance arbitrations of more complex nature. Prepare case for arbitration, including preparation of witnesses, development of defense strategy, research of legal issues and legal support of management position, and settlement of case. Should have Juris doctor from an ABA accredited school of law. Must have 10 years’ experience in labor or employment law, labor relations, human resources, or related field. Should preferable member of State Bar of Michigan, or willing to sit for exam. 5 years experience in a law firm or legal department, or in health care is desired.
