JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The following sets forth the primary responsibilities of this job, but is not an exhaustive list.  The Organization, through its managers and supervisors, reserves the right to assign any additional duties necessary to meet the needs of our patients, partners and/or employees.

  1. Participates as a member of Senior Leadership.
  2. With Senior Leadership, Develops and recommends an annual budget to the VH Board.
  3. Provides SVPs of Operations and business unit leaders with ongoing feedback of performance including any necessary Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) or recommended corrective actions.
  4. Oversees the organizations Finance and Accounting, centralized Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Insurance Billing, Credit & Collections, Contract Administration UR, IS, Reimbursement and Purchasing functions.
  5. Manages finance and accounting operations. Evaluates, develops and implements policies and procedures for control of operations; quality, reliable, and consistent financial reporting; and delivers comprehensive and accurate information to CEO, SVPs of Operations, and Board of Directors.
  6. Manages external audit and tax relationships/vendors; coordinates and leads the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and executive leadership.
  7. Prepares Board-level reports of strategic plan, budget, forecast and other key metrics; effectively communicates and presents key financial information to the Board of Directors.
  8. Provides the CEO, and other corporate staff requested information related to the Division’s financial and business operations.
  9. Ensures that monthly financial statements are completed timely and accurately. Provides guidance to the operating units during the month-end close process.
  10. Ensures that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis and in compliance with policies and standards and that any outstanding variances are identified and corrected timely.
  11. Participates in the Monthly Operating Reviews with SVPs of Operations and operating EDs and managers. Provides explanations and insight for performance of operating units.
  12. Routinely reviews revenue cycle metrics to proactively identify and address issues affecting overall performance. Reviews and follows up on any issues reported by the Board, CEO and Senior Leadership
  13. Works with CEO & Regional SVPs to prepare an annual capital budgets timely and that Capital Expenditure Requests are completed accurately and in compliance with VH policies.
  14. Develops analytical tools, models and reports for tracking and reporting on key strategic initiatives. Recommends benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departments and various locations; maintain and update reporting metrics as required.
  15. Builds strong working relationships at all levels of the organization, fostering an environment of mutual, open and transparent communication under a mentality of “how can I serve you” attitude towards all personnel at corporate and the facilities.
  16. Adheres to Valley Hope’s philosophies, policies, and procedures as well as any other regulating bodies.
  17. Participates in all assigned staff meetings, staff development, and training as required.
  18. Interacts and communicates with others (patients, co-workers, management, clients, and vendors) in a professional and tactful manner including treating them with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position.


Required:  This position requires the following educational and/or job experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or business-related field with a major in Accounting
  • Eight (8) plus years of relevant and progressive work experience in finance and accounting roles.
  • Five (5) plus years of supervisory/management experience.


  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
  • CPA or other certification related to field.
  • Previous experience with a multi-unit/multi-state healthcare system.
  • Five (5) Years plus CFO experience in a healthcare setting, previous Behavioral Health or Addiction Treatment Preferred
  • Prior work experience in non-profit and/or healthcare industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with addiction treatment and recovery and behavioral health.

  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage multiple tasks and/or projects.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The following is intended to give and overview of the work environment of the position, but is not an exhaustive list.

  • Office setting with traditional hours.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time (typically no longer than 8 hours).
  • Able to push, pull, pull up, bend at the knees and waist, twist body at the waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed, grasp other items with hands, for either extended periods of time or many times throughout the workday.
  • Able to travel – estimated at 20% of the time.
