Trust Counsel
The candidate will provide clients with complete trust, estate and investment management services; this includes services in the area of estates, personal trusts, and any other appropriate fiduciary capacity. Will manage and administer trusts and estates with accountability for all aspects of the accounts and client relations including conducting a complete analysis of the requirements of assigned accounts; review wills and trust agreements and determine fiduciary responsibilities; arrange for the assembly, appraisal, evaluation, transfer, and protection of assets; collaborate with other interested parties over the life of the account to explain the Company’s role, resolve problems, establish the needs and interest of each and provide assistance. Act where discretion is authorized to pay bills and distribute income. Prepare to report as applicable for client meetings, accounting, tax returns, and scheduled payments, determine cash requirements and anticipate tax consequences. Network with attorneys, trust & estate planning professionals and other Centers of Influence to externally market and introduce Tompkins Financial Advisors’ suite of services. Perform due diligence reviews of wills and trust instruments prior to acceptance to ensure future accounts are suitable and prudent; use advanced knowledge of legal concepts to manage TFA’s risk by reviewing highly complex legal documents and rejecting unsuitable instruments (i.e.: documents too ambiguous or administratively burdensome); identify opportunities to enhance the probability that client’s objectives will be met. Actively participate in the strategic plan by conducting business development activities; provide input and recommendations regarding service enhancements; lead assigned initiatives to drive changes and enhancements to the service delivery model. Organize and conduct educational seminars for prospects, clients and Centers of Influence or other public events as appropriate. Provide estate and trust expertise to internal partners. Provide preliminary review and approval of estate planning correspondence and reports; partner with wealth advisors to address deficiencies prior to review. Maintain an in-depth understanding of compliance, regulatory and departmental policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned.
