Institutional Equity Investigator
Responsibilities: Conduct prompt, equitable and impartial investigations of complaints of sexual misconduct, relationship violence, stalking, discrimination, and harassment as well as facilitation of informal resolutions. This includes interviewing parties; identifying, gathering and assessing information relevant to the investigation; and following other required investigative procedures based upon established policies. This also includes preparing comprehensive investigative reports based upon investigation findings. Additionally, includes facilitating the process for informal resolutions in coordination with the Title IX Program Officer. Continuously identify and integrate best practices in the Title IX and other civil rights investigations into University policies and procedures to ensure that the University’s processes, responses, and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations related to compliance with non-discrimination laws; stay abreast of current movements in the field of investigations by participating in conferences, workshops, etc.; and maintain a current working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulations including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and due process protections as they apply to student conduct proceedings, the Clery Act, VAWA, and FERPA. Assist the Office of Institutional Equity & Diversity in the development and implementation of training programs for faculty, staff, and students on Title IX, equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and other related topics. Actively foster and maintain a climate that is supportive of Brown University’s mission and values while cultivating a community that is respectful of difference. This includes providing information to students, employees and others regarding the Student Conduct Code, University Code of Conduct, and University policies related to discrimination and harassment. Develop and maintain relationships and clear lines of communication with campus and community partners including Campus Life, General Counsel, and University Human Resources. Build relationships with colleagues at peer institutions; participate in local, regional and/or national professional associations and organizations.
