Job Description:
The Sign Language Interpreter II is responsible for providing accommodations to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in campus courses/events.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Provides accommodations to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing (sign language interpretation/transliteration; C-Print captioning) in college, vocational, or community education courses and in other college contexts such as: Student Life or campus events; advisement; and meetings with faculty
•Provides academic advisement to students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Provides faculty consultation and training on accommodating students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Serves to provide a range of support for students who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing that relates directly to retention and program completion
•Works with the ACCESS Department to assist with scheduling, provide back-up and substitute interpreter/captionist coverage as needed
•Tutors students who are Deaf/hard of hearing
•Monitors the progress and maintains records of assigned students
Minimum Requirements:
•Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years of experience in the field, of which one (1) year is exclusively interpreting for deaf adults; or an Associate's Degree and nine (9) years of experience , of which one (1) year is exclusively interpreting for deaf adults
•Screening levels in the Florida Quality Assurance Level II (QA II); Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) 3.5 or above; or Educational Interpreter Evaluation (EIE) II or above
•All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
•Trained in C-Print or be trained within 6 months of hire
•Demonstrated ability to interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English for both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign tasks
•Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
