Forestry Technician (Timber Sale Administration), GS 11
Duties: The candidate will provide timber sale and contract administration. Will review contracts and related pre-sale data such as: preliminary logging plan, appraisal etc. Reviews plans and schedules with purchasers to assure understanding of conditions and responsibilities. Responsible for field inspections and control of purchaser's operations such as falling, skidding, and yarding. Perform maintenance inspections on certified sale administrators working on the forest. Utilize forestry methods, techniques, and practices, to include identifying tree species, log scaling etc. Evaluate operator practices and their impact on the environment to include logging equipment capabilities, applications and logging methods. Assist with silviculture prescriptions, presale documents and/or timber sale contract terms and conditions. Monitor the progressive logging operations of the contractor. Ensure fair and equitable administration of complex timber contract requirements, involving substantial amounts of money. Implement land management and resource protection policies in order to recognize impacts of logging on the environment. Ensure contractual obligations are met before completing final inspection and recommending sale closure. Take appropriate action regarding Timber Sales in order to correct deficiencies and assess penalties. Assist with administering contracts for sale of timber. Review timber sale statement of accounts and maintains controls to insure that all payments and deposits are made.
