The Service Engineer of New Store Deployment and Retrofits is responsible for configuration and installation of the technology installed during New Store Deployments and Retrofits.   This person will work closely with cross functional Retail Services Information Technology teams, outsourced construction vendors, AV vendors, communication carriers, and internal management to ensure the technology being installed in the Microsoft Retail Stores meets high level quality standards.  

This is a hands-on role and may require significant travel (up to 50%) throughout North America and International.   This individual will be required to attend new store builds and retrofits at various stages to validate the quality of the hardware and infrastructure being installed.   The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the retail industry with store build-outs or managed large to medium retrofit projects.

Primary responsibilities will be to validate quality of the following:

-Quality standards of hardware and infrastructure installation

-Server room cable tray layout, installation and grounding, cabinet alignment and orientation

-Inner cabinet hardware, cable management and patch panel front and rear in server room

-Backboard circuit, cell repeater, grounding, power, pathway / cable management and device placement

-UPS Ethernet connection, NIC card install and system verified online and filter exchanged

-Video wall monitor installation and alignment, cable management, AV device placement, content

distribution, color calibration, and J-fixture rack installation

-Theater installation, speakers / sub, Xbox/Kinect, DirecTV

-Access point placement and validation of coverage with network team

-Audio system installation based off drawings and/or engineering bulletins

-AV panel is installed as per drawing and functioning

-Security camera, card access and biometric are located as per drawing and functioning

-People counter is installed and functioning

-Answer Desk POS and cable management

-Living room TV, Xbox and Surface Pro are properly installed and experience is functioning

-Media center installation device placement, monitor installation, speakers, PC and Xbox / Kinect

-Network speed is to specification for both wired and wireless

-Donor antenna, roof plan has been approved, pathway and cabling is install properly and secured on the roof, lightning surge suppression installed, ground cabling

-Breakroom time clock, community monitor and PC are installed and functioning

-Tech room switch, cable management, power management, monitor mounts, cubbie data ports are activated and on the appropriate VLAN

-Remote storage devices are properly installed

-Hardware has been asset tagged

-Mechanical for HVAC Server Room supply / return placement

-Electrical for plan and electrical panel plan for power distribution details

-Telco backboard placement and associated hardware

-Access point placement, speaker install, cable management

-PC's are properly installed and working in the entire store

-Time clock and breakroom event monitor installation

Additional Job Responsibilities:

-Identify training opportunities and organize training interventions to meet quality standards

-Ensure as builds are updated with any changes that were identified

-Assure ongoing vendor compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirements

-Review architectural drawings to gain understanding of store layout

-Document internal audit and other quality assurance activities

-Analyze data to identify areas for improvement

-Review construction drawings to ensure proper LV, AV and Security installation

-Investigate customer complaints and non-conformance issues

-Familiarity with Crestron and Harmon technologies

-Able to work after hours during retrofit deployments and extended stays at location

Necessary Skills & Qualifications

-Must have experience managing large distributed teams of both employees and external vendors

-Must be able to foster a collaborative environment

-Experience in successfully hiring for diversity and balanced skills and retaining strong team

-Must understand low voltage and audio video technology

-Must understand how to scale processes and personnel across multiple locations to maximize effectiveness

-Manages all aspects of large and complex projects throughout the infrastructure and retrofit development project lifecycles including project scope, schedule, resources, quality, costs and change

-Translates project requirements into project objectives and tasks, managing task assignment to project resources and reporting on and managing project scope throughout the lifecycle

-Develops detailed project schedules, resource plans, status reports, budget forecasts and influences the effectiveness of a team that integrates multiple functions/disciplines

-Conducts project meetings, sets and manages business expectations by solving complex issues and changes when appropriate exercising complex Risk, Issue and Change Management best practices

-Interfaces with all areas affected by the project, including end user, services organizations, vendors and implementations partners

-Reviews project deliverables for accuracy and apprises management of issues effecting project status and offers solution to solve the issues

-Ensures satisfactory transfer of custody and control of retrofit upon completion (handoff) and close all project documentation and archive appropriate deliverables

-Experience in driving build and technology cost down

-College degree or equivalent military or work experience

-Agile proficient required

Basic Qualifications:

-6 years of retail store build or related type of experience required

-5 years of PM experience
