Responsible for the strategic planning, development and implementation of an integrated communications strategy for Lilly Oncology (LO) and/or products/brands. This includes using a variety of communication levers – internal and external – to help Lilly Oncology achieve its goals.

Key objectives/deliverables:

The Oncology Environment Shaping and Employee Communications Consultant’s primary responsibilities:

Brand PR:

Provide strategic communications counsel and support to key business partners on assigned LO product\brand team (including understanding brand strategy and leading and developing PR plans).

Counsel senior leadership on communications implications and impacts of events or issues on the business.

Collaborate with LO communications colleagues on the strategy and development of materials related to social media, data announcements and business development opportunities.

Environment Shaping and Employee Communications:

Provide leadership and subject matter expertise for environment shaping and employee communications.

Provide strategic communications counsel and support to key business partners in Lilly Oncology corporate affairs for environment shaping and key policy projects in the U.S.

Lead media relations strategy, execution, and media material development for corporate affairs environment shaping and policy projects in the U.S.

Lead LO employee and leadership communications including developing an editorial calendar and content for oncology section of Lilly corporate news (LillyNow) and town hall strategy.

Collaborate with key communications colleagues in International Communications and global affiliates to ensure understanding of LO communications strategy and to share materials and best practices.

Due to the nature of this work, the consultant must have broad PR skills and abilities so he/she can flex duties and successfully deliver: (as needed)

Media relations strategy, execution, and media material development for data and regulatory milestones, business development, partnerships and brand supportive campaigns.

Social media: direct development of engaging content for corporate and franchise channels, establish and maintain relationships with key influencers.

Issues management: Anticipate, prioritize and prepare to manage possible negative issues in the media.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic and creative communications plans, including digital and social media.

Experience providing communications support and counsel to senior leadership.

Strong leadership skills; demonstrated ability to influence peers and internal leaders at significantly higher levels of the organization.

Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across a matrix organization. Strong understanding of Lilly and how various functional groups operate.

Strong communication skills – including verbal, written and presentation skills – that can help inform and persuade a wide range of audiences

Experience effectively leading and managing a PR agency partner

Experience in media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson.

Effective project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, multi-task and make appropriate trade-off decisions.

Strong learning agility

Resilience and the ability to stay calm in stressful circumstances

Currently performing at the P4/consultant level

Experience in policy communications (preferred pharmaceutical policy)

Additional Information:

Job will report to Carole Copeland, Director of Communications, Lilly Oncology

Job will reside in Indianapolis

Some domestic travel required (10%)

Basic Qualifications:

A minimum of five years work-related communications experience.

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (communications, journalism, PR, English)
