Associate Professor (Legal Studies)
The candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels such as administrative law. Other related areas of law and applied topics or any combination of the aforementioned courses. Additional duties may include but are not limited to student advisement in the following areas: pre-law, paralegal, and criminal justice, assisting with related assessment, professional accreditation and/or certification requirements such as Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), engaging with a variety of justice agencies (governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)), and coordinating activities that engage students in working with these agencies. University of Guam faculty members are expected to teach twelve (12) credit hours each semester, conduct research, advise students, participate in curriculum development and outcomes assessment, and establish linkages to advance the land grant mission of the University of Guam throughout the region. SBPA seeks to recruit faculty who have experience in traditional face to face and online curriculum development and assessment of student learning, have recent publications in the respective discipline, and are actively engaged in research and other scholarly work and professional service. Should have JD degree with additional graduate work from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent approved or recognized by the American Bar Association and current membership in a state/territorial bar or equivalent jurisdiction or PhD in a Criminal Justice related field from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent with demonstrated content expertise in the legal studies and criminal justice courses listed above. ABDs, from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent, may apply, provided the doctorate is attained by the time employment begins. Candidate has taught courses at the undergraduate level, and conducted current relevant research and/or has current professional experience in legal studies and criminal justice or a related field. Must be willing to teach online. Should have PhD degree holders or JD degree holders with outstanding backgrounds in the practice of law, government service and public policy development who will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the legal studies program. Additional experience that will promote excellence in instruction and intellectual accomplishment as well as support civic engagement. Experience working with online learning programs.
