Laboratory Technician','260238','Full-time','Variable','Medical Technologist','California-Santa Monica','','!*!Providence is calling a Laboratory Technician for Full-Time, Day Shift to Providence Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA.We are seeking a Laboratory Technician who will coordinate all daily function and staff in the Pathology Specimen Processing, including phlebotomy. Perform some or all of the following duties in one or more laboratory sections: Coordinate and participate in specimen collections, prepare specimens for testing, dispatches specimens to department or referral laboratories, and receive/process/disseminate/request/specimen/report/test result as indicated. Receive/give testing information; prepare reagents/media. Operate automated testing equipment, runs quality control standards, check for abnormal or variant results, enters results into computer, and performs phlebotomies. Also assist with diagnostic protocols for handling clinical research specimens as dictated by the clinical trial protocols.
In this position you will:Demonstrate competency in selected skills including, but not limited to: Performing all clerical functions in the laboratory office Coordinating specimen collection, processing and distribution Recording, sorting, and distributing test results Receiving and initial processing Processing blood samples Collect, clean, and sterilize glassware Record and maintain QCs, maintenance on instruments Log clinical research specimensDemonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to: Attendance, punctuality and patient confidentiality Positive public relation image and working relationships Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence and certifications Completing all mandatory requirements, including annual safety programs, CPR, infection control and annual physicalParticipate in the development and attainment of team, department and hospital goals including: Attending and participating in department meetings Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects Mission, vision and team ground rules','!*!Required qualifications for this position include:Education to meet certification, license or registration requirement2 years in a medical/laboratory settingAbility to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and agesAbility to work independently with little or no supervisionProficient in P.C. software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate workAbility to work effectively with many people at various levels of the organizationExcellent oral and written communication skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritizeAbility to clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, management, physicians, and visitorsAbility to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance to hospital policy
Preferred qualifications for this position include:Phlebotomy Certification6 months in an acute care setting1 year Phlebotomy experience
