VP, Assistant General Counsel - Legal Discovery Attorney
The candidate acts as the primary point of contact for matter case teams, advising and coordinating electronic discovery expectations, activities, and resolutions. Manages the day-to-day case details throughout the discovery life cycle among all the collaborating parties, including the firm’s internal attorneys, outside counsel, vendors, and the firm's internal operations and technology groups. Conducts early matter outreach, discovery planning, budgeting, data scoping, tracking, status reporting, managing to timelines, memorializing key decisions, and overseeing production requests. Facilitates early case assessment and review by coordinating with the internal attorneys, where appropriate. Devises and implements strategies and workflows for matters and investigations throughout the discovery lifecycle. Manages document review on a matter level, working closely with internal attorneys and/or outside counsel, document hosting and review vendors, and internal case management personnel in creating and executing discovery plans. Collaborates with internal and outside counsel (where applicable), document hosting and review vendors, and internal case management personnel to identify and execute effective and efficient document preservation, collection, and review methods appropriate to each matter, such as the use of the technology-assisted review and leveraging reporting/metrics to manage document collections and reviews. Collaborates with internal counsel on high-priority and time-sensitive matters by conducting key searches, analyzing and reviewing documents, and providing summaries of critical communications and chronologies. Actively participates in strategic initiatives for the Legal Discovery Management team. J.D. from an accredited law school as well as at least 5 years of practice experience. The attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction. Previous discovery experience at a consulting firm, discovery vendor, or top-tier law firm is strongly preferred. Ability to prioritize work and effectively manage a large caseload tracking multiple workstreams. A deep understanding of discovery review platforms is preferred. Experience with Technology Assisted Review (TAR) tools, workflows, and strategies preferred. Superior oral and written presentation skills are required to provide status to key audiences in a concise, informative, and timely manner. Must complete a conflict of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
