Duties: Assist the United States Attorney Office for the Western District of with Immigration matters. Uses an in-depth knowledge of the application of various laws, court and/or administrative decisions and interpretations related to immigration litigation, performs substantive research, evaluation and analysis of a variety of specialized legal topics and points of law. Uses multiple online legal systems, researches state and federal statutes, legal and factual issues and any other source of information pertinent to the resolution of an issue. Independently performs extensive and thorough legal research into the legislative history, precedent cases, decisions, and opinions that may be applicable to particular legal matters. Analyzes options, evaluates the relevance of each and determines which statutes, regulations, cases, procedures and/or policies need to be researched and assembled. Reviews current legislation, regulations, directives and decisions of various courts and/or administrative bodies. Assists in the development of cases on facts derived from a review of case information, requests from AUSAs (Assistant United States Attorneys) and a review of documentary evidence or facts. Performs substantive legal analysis of requests for information. Organizes and prepares research material, determines pertinent information, reconciles conflicting facts, identifies and gathers additional information when necessary, weighs diverse and complex facts, makes sound interpretations, prepares initial summary and makes recommendations as to appropriateness of data and compatibility with applicable laws, policies or regulations. Prepares indices of legal and administrative material. Independently develops appropriate conclusions and justifications. Acquired information is used to develop facts and points of law and to provide information and recommended courses of action to AUSAs. Drafts initial legal and administrative briefs, USAO (United States Attorney’s Office) motions, oppositions to motions and correspondence for AUSA review. Prepares documents that pertain to the analysis, evaluation and relevance of technical evidence or questions which arise during the litigative process and require reconciliation of conflicting policies and facts. Drafts legal documents that detail the legislative history, precedent cases, decisions, and opinions that may be applicable to particular legal matters. Effectively presents facts, law and analysis that meet case requirements and support USAO legal arguments. Drafts initial legal documents and correspondence which summarize and explain case files, depositions and/or interrogatories. Reviews, proofreads and edits lengthy and complex legal documents. Verifies citations and statutory references against original sources. Drafts correspondence and legal documents that coordinate actions with other Federal agencies or State and local jurisdictions that are associated with USAO litigative activities. Supports case development and documentation requirements as litigation progresses. Coordinates production of administrative records and responses to requests for discovery. Prepares and organizes voluminous documentation and evidence for production as discovery and for use in trial. Identifies and locates missing information. Reviews administrative records and discovery production for privileged content and other content for redaction. Effectively organizes data and develops trial exhibits such as statistical charts, graphs, and timelines to be presented in court as corroborative evidence. Manages discovery and evidence in electronic and hard copy formats, prepares for the use of it in each stage of litigation and may present the exhibits using trial presentation software in court. Maintains evidence such as paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video files, bank records, forensic reports, and other file types.
