Benefits Consulting Attorney
The candidate will review current developments in health and welfare benefits law, undertake required research, prepare complex technical analyses, and develop market-differentiating advice, insights, and solutions. Develop content analyzing key policy, legislative, and legal developments and issues and sharing advice, insights and solutions with internal and external clients. Design and draft legal documents (i.e. plan documents, communication to participants, plan governance and administrative materials). Review work prepared by others. Develop notification articles and short summaries of new laws, regulations and judicial developments to be published internally/externally, keeping consultants and clients abreast of developments and the thinking and analyses done by thought leaders and others in the HR field. Act as legal/technical expert providing advice, insights and solutions to clients and consultants on unique legal/technical and compliance issues affecting benefit plan strategies, programs, plans (design and operations), and practices. Present consulting capabilities to clients and prospective clients along with sales consultants, account managers, and business consultants. Identify marketing opportunities and review marketing and business-focused materials for legal/technical accuracy. Remain abreast in the field of expertise through research and continuing education designed to enhance expertise pertaining to various human resources and legal/technical areas, including HR strategies, benefit plans, plan governance (federal and state compliance), and operational/administrative processes. A Juris Doctor Degree or foreign equivalent plus 3-4 years of experience as an ERISA Benefits Attorney and/or compliance space in health and benefits. Ability to work at a fast pace, both independently and in a team environment. Capacity to multitask, and manage competing priorities with strong time management skills. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong business acumen paired with intellectual curiosity. Proficiency using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Previous working experience with ACA, CAA, HIPAA, COBRA, MHPAEA, or paid leave laws. Advanced excel skills; V-look-up, pivot tables, macros.
