The candidate will Collaborates with the legal and claims management (professional and general liability) team as well as participates as a member of the Quality & Patient Safety leadership team. Responsible for the policies, procedures, and activities aimed at minimizing, identifying, mitigating, and controlling professional and general liability risks. Advises senior leadership on decisions regarding the disposition and management of professional and general liability claims. Contributes to the functioning of the self-insurance program. Recognizes, investigates, and prepares the reports for those cases that meet criteria for patient safety reporting. Supports the work of Patient Billing Services with regard to identifying adverse events that should not be billed. Bachelor’s degree in Business or Healthcare field required. Advanced degree (e.g. Master’s in Health Care Administration, Business, or a related field, or Juris Doctor) strongly preferred. 7 years diverse and progressively responsible experience in healthcare risk management or a related field required, including three to five years’ supervisory experience. Experience within multi-hospital system or integrated healthcare delivery system preferred. Experience with using everyday technology tools (e.g. email, spreadsheets, word processing, voicemail, internet/intranet) to access, organize, and store job-related information. Possesses critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are required. Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action are required.
