Job Summary:
The Therapist is responsible for providing initial screening of phone calls, making determination of appropriate referral, managing consult request and notifying physician, collaborating with Psychiatric Associates to ensure patient’s needs are met, assist with reminder calls, document communication in computer system, coordinate emergent care with the Psychiatric Emergency Center, register patients for Behavioral sponsored programs, keeps current records on daily calls and turn aways, maintaining current community referral information, collaborate with other community agencies as needed, participate in Behavioral marketing initiatives, serves as the front door to Alegent Health Behavioral Services.
 
 
 
 
Essential Duties:

Provides excellent customer service to all callers.
 

Conducts initial intervention with callers to determine most appropriate referral.  If service requested is not provided by Alegent Health will refer to a community resource.
 

Refers and collaborates with other internal and external agencies and significant others     having a joint interest in meeting the needs of the client.
 

Uses problem solving skills to meet the needs of callers and identify lapses in the service line which create problems for callers.
 

Maintains current and accurate accounting of the calls received on a monthly bases as well as any other information requested.
 

Works collaboratively with the psychiatric emergency center on emergency situations.
 

Manages consult request for all metro hospitals and notifies physicians with accurate information.
 

Assist Psychiatric Associates clinics with reminder calls as needed.
 

Communicate significant information in a timely manner both oral and written.
 

Keeps up to date on clinical information regarding crisis intervention.  Works with the Clinical Consultant as needed.

Education / Licensure Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling/Social Work or other related field     Post bachelors work. preferred.
 
Experience Preferred:
Will possess 2-4 years of mental health and/or chemical dependency experience.  Knowledge of community resources helpful.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The Therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide crisis intervention. The individual must possess strong phone skills and customer service.  Knowledge of community resources very helpful.  Ability to use problem solving skills to meet the needs of callers.  Must have strong computer skills in order to document calls efficiently.  Knowledge of Behavioral Services; DSMIV diagnostic criteria and appropriate treatment planning for the various diagnostic categories; basic knowledge of managed care and community services and requirements; ability to process and complete charting tasks in a timely manner; knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and professional standards; excellent communication skills; demonstrates personal traits of a high level of motivation; team orientation; professionalism; trust; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
