Staff Counsel
Responsibilities: In collaboration with other members of the Legal Department, provides legal advice and guidance to IHA’s management and staff and IHA’s related entities with respect to contracts, business transactions, government grants and contracts, regulation and compliance, corporate organization and governance, and information privacy and confidentiality. In collaboration with other members of the Legal Department, drafts, reviews, and revises contracts to ensure enforceability, mitigate risk, and ensure compliance with relevant laws. Counsels IHA staff and IHA’s affiliates regarding the meaning of terms and advises staff regarding legal concerns and suggested revisions. Interacts with counsel for the other party regarding desired revisions. In collaboration with other members of the Legal Department, works with policy and advocacy staff on the development of policy and advocacy positions that involve legal issues or require legal research or analysis. Examples of this type of work include, analyzing legislation, regulations, and court decisions; drafting position papers; drafting legislation and regulations; assisting with drafting of amicus briefs; and informing members about new statutes, regulations, and court decisions. Prepares educational or informational materials for IHA members and staff on legal issues.
